Ray Jordan’s Wine Guide
Ray Jordan, long time wine critic of The West Australian, has named our Sauvignon Blanc the ‘Best of the West’ in his annual Wine Guide! Winning the best Sauvignon Blanc in the state is a brilliant way to follow up the 2nd place/runner up award we received at the national James Halliday Wine Awards in August.
Also, the Queen of the Earth Chardonnay scored a very high 97 points and was runner up in the ‘Best of the West’ Chardonnay class. In very good company amongst top chardonnays from Vasse Felix, Leeuwin, Woodlands and Devils Lair, it proved to be the best value at $55 with all other chardonnays starting at $75.
Ray says, “Flowstone is a tiny producer of handcrafted wines in Margaret River. They are unashamedly small and intend on staying that way. This brand new winery is the product of passion of Stuart Pym [long-time Margaret River winemaker], Phil Giglia [long-time wine tragic, in a nice way] and other family helpers. Distinctive and individual.”
Thanks for the support Ray.
2014 Flowstone Sauvignon Blanc
95 / 100
Winner ‘Best of the West’ Sauvignon Blanc!
“A really interesting take on Sav blanc with old oak fermentation and then extended time in oak with lees stirring. You can see this immediately in the palate, which has a more old worldy feeling and character. Tends to mute the primary fruit characters and create something significantly more interesting and appealing. Love the style. Cellar: 7 years.”
2013 Flowstone Queen of the Earth Chardonnay
97 / 100
Runner-up ‘Best of the West’ Chardonnay!
“Terribly complex statement of Margaret River chardonnay. Aromas of honeysuckle and meal with traces of brioche and cashew. The palate is so well managed with deep flavours of stone fruit and nectarine with a deliciously creamy texture cut with minerally slightly toasty character. It’s had about 50% new oak but the extended time on lees has allowed this to integrate and not dominate. Super wine. Cellar: 10 years.”
